With first-class leadership, comes the ability to prevail over any obstacle standing in the way. This is what senior co-captain of the soccer team, Carlos Mejia, brought to the field this season.
His confidence and pre-game talks inspired the boys’ soccer team to heights that people thought could not be reached. His skill and lightning fast cuts created opportunities to score goals, which helped the team qualify for NCS- a feat that had not been accomplished in the last 21 years.
“It has been a fantastic season,” said Mejia. “We did what no one thought we could do. We beat the top seed from our league and made it to the NCS semi-finals. Overall it’s been a great season not only because of the results but also because of the memorable moments.”
Mejia received first All-League for SCL this season and second All- Team in NCS; a great finish to a stellar high school career. Mejia also won MVP for Casa two years in a row as well as making first team in the Tamalpais tournament.
Mejia hopes to continue playing soccer in the future in either college or a professional league. “I am sad my high school seasons are over,” said Mejia. “Every summer I would look forward to the next season. Even though my time playing for the Gauchos is over, I will continue to play and love the sport.”
